We’re your hosts, and your neighbours, as the beautiful building of Carlton Lodge is in fact two buildings.  So, you don’t need to enter our home when you stay with us.  Our spacious bed and breakfast accommodation has its own entrance, breakfast room, garden and parking.

In autumn 2019, after 31 years of love and hard work at Carlton Lodge, owners Chris and Margaret Parkin decided to take a well-earned retirement.  At the same time we fell in love with one of Helmsley’s most beautiful buildings and the thought of moving to North Yorkshire. So after calling Cumbria home for many years we traded lakes and mountains for moorland beauty.  We couldn’t be prouder to have purchased from the Parkin Family a true Yorkshire favourite and intend to carry on welcoming bed and breakfast guests to Carlton Lodge.

Harry and medal post Lakeland 50

Harry’s spent more years than he can remember working in the food, beverage and hospitality industry.  After owning and running two extremely successful Lake District pubs he decided it was time to follow a Yorkshire bed and breakfast dream.  If you’re a foodie then you won’t be lost for conversation as Harry loves nothing more than recommending local places to eat and drink.  When he’s not eating he loves walking, running and the odd bit of cycling.  In 2019 he completed the famous Lakeland 50 mile ultra marathon because Lisa said “you know what I think you’d really enjoy!”

When Harry still had hair!

Lisa’s originally from Hull, so officially a Yorkshire Lass.   After 9 years in the Royal Navy she spent over 21 years working in the UK and overseas travel industry.  13 years in Former Yugoslavia, and 3 years in Nepal, had her fall in love with the great outdoors especially journeys on two feet.  In her free time you’ll find her out walking, running or cycling.  As a licensed run leader she loves encouraging and supporting new or less confident runners build up confidence.  Lisa can talk the hind legs off a donkey and is very persuasive.  Don’t be surprised if one day you’re having a chat and the next you’ve signed up for an event!

We’re not perfect, and we may occasionally get things wrong, but we’ll be trying our very best during your stay to make it enjoyable.
